Sophie Chen, class of 2014, is originally from Honolulu, Hawii, and is currently studying Mathematics for teaching.

“In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, watching movies, and playing my flute. My goal this year was to try one new thing every quarter in college: first quarter, I joined a club that taught tango, salsa, and cultural dances; second quarter, I played badminton every week with my friends from GOC, the Christian Fellowship that I’m in; third quarter, I had an amazing time playing in a pit orchestra for a musical at UCLA—I was in band all four years in high school, but this was the first time that I had ever played in a pit orchestra.
Something I did or plan to do because of the scholarship: I had a blast with the other three [UCLA] Stamps Scholars this February at the Stamps Convention in Florida. In the future, I hope to be able to study abroad.”
